Some Serbian opposition parties have decided to end their boycott of “regime-controlled media”, saying that the public needs to hear them through those media outlets.

A statement issued after an meeting in the Social Democrat Party headquarters called the entire opposition to use any means to address the public. “We are calling the entire opposition to make use of every possible space to address the public before the end of the campaign and do everything in our power not to allow the public to remain uninformed and under control in a situation when the media are under regime control,” it said.

The statement said that they will appear on print media close to the authorities if they report their statements in full and allow their authorization before broadcast and will appear on TV shows if they appear with relevant opponents, not entertainers. “Appearing in regime media does not give them legitimacy in any way. This is only part of a struggle by all means to bring the truth to the public. There is no social dialogue, nor any opportunity for any kind of changes while the opposition only addresses its voters and allows the majority of the citizens to be exposed only to the reality created by regime propaganda,” it said.

The meeting decided to continue talking to the state TV (RTS) and insist on giving the opposition as much space as possible on the public broadcaster.
