The Serbian Mining and Energy Ministry said on Tuesday that it had revoked the exploration rights issued to Zijin at that company’s request.
A press release said that the Chinese Zijin, which owns and operates the mining and smelting complex in Bor, requested the revoking of exploration rights to pars of Mt Kosmaj outside Belgrade where its experts searched for various minerals. The Ministry decision means that there will be no geological exploration on Mt Kosmaj nor will any mine be opened, it added.
The exploration rights were granted in 2012 to Balkan Exploration and Mining d.o.o. which had them extended in 2015, 2017 and 2020. The rights were passed on to the Serbia Zijin Copper company when the ownership of the exploration rights holder company changed.
