The World Bank (WB) and SIGMA, a joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the EU that promotes good governance, gave Serbia's State Audit Institution (DRI) the highest marks for the external audit.

In the fourth evaluation of the National Public Financial Management System in Serbia, i.e. the Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability Impact Assessment Report (PEFA), in the area of external audit, the DRI scored significantly higher compared to the previous report from 2015.

The PEFA’s analysis covered all direct and indirect users of budget funds.

SIGMA has been conducting evaluations of public administration principles in candidate and potential candidate countries since 2015, which the European Commission (EC) includes in its annual reports, on the candidate and likely candidate countries’ progress.

„SIGMA’s annual report recognised the work of the DRI as a regional leader in external audit,“ the Institution’s president Dusko Pejovic said.

He added that the DRI’s contribution to public financial management would ensure further progress of Serbia on the path to European integration.

According to the report, DRI applies the standards neutrally and objectively to ensure high-quality audits, which positively impacts the functioning of the public sector.
