Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic told his Israeli counterpart, Isaak Herzog, that his country and Serbia’s people were disappointed with the Israeli recognition of Kosovo’s independence.

Israel recognised Kosovo as an independent state following an agreement Vucic and then Kosovo’s Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti signed in Washington last September under former President Donald Trump’s auspices. The deal included the opening of the Israeli embassy in Pristina and moving Serbia’s embassy from Tela Aviv to Jerusalem. The latter has happened yet.

In a phone conversation, Vucic told Herzog he expected Israel to further support the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations as the only way for solving that sensitive issue for Serbia.

Both presidents said they hoped for more frequent contacts to discuss issues of common interests, Vucic’s office said in a statement.
