Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Kosovo special police units raided the predominantly Serb town of Gracanica on Wednesday evening.
“They sent 20 special police to Gracanica expecting to find a meeting and to search for a roast ox which was being prepared for tomorrow’s Serbian New Year. They wanted to ban it,” Vucic told the Serbian state TV (RTS).
Serbs celebrate the New Year according to the Julian calendar on the night of January 13-14.
Vucic said he fears that a police raid is being prepared for Sunday, the date of the referendum on amendments to the Serbian constitution, as a ploy to stop the Kosovo Serbs from voting. He appealed to the international community to tell Pristina to abide by agreements, especcially the Brussels Agreement.
He warned that the consequences will be much worse and far-reaching than the Albanians and the international community think if Pristina does not allow the Kosovo Serbs to vote on January 16. “We’ll see. I have been talking to everyone yesterday and today,” the Serbian President said.
