Vucic, Hill discuss topical issues

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic discussed a number of topical issues including regional initiatives with US Ambassador Christopher Hill on Monday.

A press release from the president’s cabinet said that they discussed promoting bilateral relations, energy diversification, Serbia’s European integration and topical geo-political issues.

It said that the ambassador reiterated US support to the European integration of Serbia and the region as well as Washington’s view that the European Union should expand.

Vucic is quoted as saying that Serbia is directing its efforts at maintaining the peace and stability of the region “since our country has positioned itself as a reliable and responsible partner dedicated to political dialogue and the development of regional relations”. “The President said that Serbia launched a number of projects as the best way to link the countries of the Western Balkans and has been recognized as a pro-active partner by all those who want to work honestly and diligently on the progress of the region,” it said.

According to the press release, Ambassador Hill expressed support for the Open Balkan initiative and readiness to help develop it.

Vucic and Hill agreed that all efforts should be directed towards the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue under EU auspices and added that the US will continue its engagement with its EU partners to continue the dialogue and achieve concrete results.
