Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission (EC), arrived in Belgrade on Wednesday night after visiting Pristina and Podgorica within her tour of the Western Balkans ahead of the regional summit with the European Union in Slovenia on October 6.
„Welcome to Serbia, Ursula van der Leyen,“ President Aleksandar Vucic told her at the Belgrade airport, greeting her with a bouquet of flowers, according to the photo he published on his Instagram profile.
He rescheduled his public appearances on a doctor’s advice, according to his media advisor Suzana Vasiljevic.
However, he later met Chen Bo, and Alexander Bocan – Harchenko, the Chinese and Russian ambassadors to Serbia.
Von der Leyen is due to witness the start of the railway project at Corridor 10 together with Vucic. She would also meet Serbia’s Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic.
The EC President should attend the signing of the contract for the rehabilitation of the section on the Peace Motorway (from Serbia’s southern city of Nis to Kosovo’s capital Pristina), financially supported by the EU.
