The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and 12 NGOs said on Friday that people in Serbia had law confidence in the country’s judicial system.

Presenting the Report of Monitoring Judiciary in Serbia, the USAID and NGOs said that over 60 percent complained about being unable to afford expensive lawyers’ tariffs.

The Report added the coronavirus pandemic often led to trials’ adjournment.

Acting Mission Director in Serbia Shanley Pinchotti said that compared to 2020, progress was made in certain areas but that there was room for the improvement of the judicial system.

Serbia held the referendum on Constitutional changes in the judiciary on January 16 with a low turnout and a slim majority yes to the Government’s proposal.
