US envoy: Serbia proves itself as good friend during pandemic

Antony Godfrey, the US ambassador to Serbia, said on Tuesday, Belgrade had proven itself as a good friend to the States and the region and that Washington had been deepening its commitment to the country.

Addressing a news conference in Serbia’s Parliament titled “A Year after – Serbian – American relations during Coronavirus,” Godfrey recalled that Serbia had organised a special flight for the US nationals, donated protective gear and test kits and distributed vaccines.

The ambassador also recalled the 20-year-long USAID partnership with Serbia, adding the organisation had secured goods and services worth 4.3 million Dollars in aid to Serbia.

Godfrey added based on the agreement between Serbia’s Finance Ministry and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the two sides worked on the loan, and bank guarantees package worth a billion Dollars in support of small and medium-sized enterprises in the country during the pandemic.

The ambassador added he was a great optimist about the two countries’ future partnership.

Serbia’s Mining and Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said Belgrade and Washington should have a strategic cooperation agreement, adding the US relations was of enormous importance to Belgrade.
