An underworld figure was gunned down in Belgrade on Monday, the Nova.rs portal reported citing prosecution sources.

It said that Luka Perencevic, alleged to have been involved in at least one murder and intimidation of witnesses, was shot by unidentified gunmen who escaped on a motorcycle in the Banjica area, across the street from Red Star FC stadium, about a mile from the headquarters of Serbia’s top security agency – BIA.

The portal said that a police SWAT unit was deployed to the area where Perencevic was shot. “The Higher Public Prosecution in Belgrade has been informed by the police that Luka Perencevic was killed at around 11:30 at number 93 Bulevar Oslobodjenja,” a press release said adding that the investigation was underway to find the gunman. It added that Perencevic was shot at a boxing club which the killer burst into and shot him in the head.

According to witnesses quoted by Nova.rs, at least three gunmen were involved using a motorcycle with the Glovo delivery company’s logo on it.

Nova.rs said that men believed to be Perencevic’s friends assaulted media crews. “Journalists were verbally assaulted before a bottle was thrown at them while the police stood by,” the portal said.
