The state-owned Telekom Serbia organized a promotion of its MTS mobile services provider in the central police station in the city of Valjevo, N1 was told by multiple sources.

Those sources said that a meeting hall in the Valjevo police department was used for the promotion early in November, offering MTS services at a discount for all police personnel and other department staff who have contracts with United Media’s SBB cable services provider.

N1 asked Valjevo police chief Vladan Jerinic to confirm the reports of a promotion in the police headquarters and how approval was given for the promotion. N1 received no response a week later.

Valjevo residents told N1’s correspondent that they were contacted by phone and offered free TV sets to cancel their SBB contracts and transfer to Telekom Serbia which has been waging a campaign for weeks offering cut prices and other benefits to clients who cancel their SBB contracts.

Telekom Serbia staff set up stall in a number of public institutions, including municipality administration buildings as well as in open air markets. Posters were also put up with a phone number to call. N1 viewers reported that they were offered free legal assistance and a ride to the nearest Telekom Serbia office if they agreed to cancel their contracts with SBB.
