European Commission spokesman Peter Stano told a daily news briefing in Brussels on Wednesday that the European Union expects the leaders in the Western Balkans to act responsibly.

“We expect the leaders in the Western Balkans to lead by example when it comes to constructive engagement and responsibly behavior and responsible statements that go in the direction of enhancing good neighborly relations,” Stano said when asked to comment Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s statement about a union with Kosovo.

“We expect the leaders to behave, act and pronounce themselves responsibly in line with the European aspirations of their people,” he added.

He said that EU envoy for the Kosovo dialogue Miroslav Lajcak was in Belgrade and Pristina to deliver the latest clear messages and expectations of the EU to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, specifying that the EU wants to see progress in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue process.

“I think all the positions and messages of the EU to our partners are clear,” he said and added that those messages are delivered repeatedly at all levels.
