The ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) top officials condemned on Wednesday a death threat posted on their organisation boss and the head of state Aleksandar Vucic's Instagram profile, saying it was not the difference in opinion but hate speech.
Zorana Mihajlovic, a Deputy Prime Minister, said that „everyone has right to own opinion, to agree or disagree with someone’s policy. But a bullet is not the difference in opinion; it is hate speech and death threat.“
She called on the state institutions to react, especially if they knew that the criminal was behind the threats.
Later on Wednesday, Nebojsa Stefanovic, Serbia’s Defence Minister, also strongly condemned the death threat to Vucic on Instagram by, as he said, a criminal wanted for several crimes. He said he expected the Military Security Agency and the elite Cobras unit to take additional measures in protecting Vucic’s life urgently.
Maja Gojkovic, Minister of Culture and Information, and also Deputy Prime Minister, joined the condemnation.
„I strongly condemn death threats to Serbia’s President, especially because they come from the known criminal. I call upon all respective institutions to urgently react,“ she said.
Gojkovic added she was convinced the threats would not unbalance Vucic, who „many times said he was aware of all the risks and dangers in the anti-corruption fight.“
The head of the SNS Executive Board Darko Glisic accused (opposition leader Dragan) „Djilas’ media“, but also „those who organised the wiretapping and surveillance of the President“ for creating an atmosphere for public calls to Vucic’s liquidation, and then the liquidation of his family member.“
„That’s the creation of an atmosphere where a psychopath should first post the threat on social networks, thus encouraging someone to do that,“ Glisic told the pro-regime Pink TV.
