In the past 24 hours, Slovenia registered 775 positive COVID cases, or by third fewer than seven days ago, and the hospitalisation numbers have remained stable, however, officials and hospital staff on Monday continued to call for caution.

Health Minister Janez Poklukar warned that it is necessary to keep implementing current restrictions in order to enable life to be at least partially normal over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In the past 24 hours, 1,857 tests confirmed 775 new cases of the novel coronavirus with a high percentage of positive cases (41.7%). There was an average of 1,772 new cases a day per 100,000 people in the last seven days, and the 14-day incidence rate has decreased to 1,362 per 100,000 population while 54.9% of the entire population has been vaccinated, the health ministry reported today.

According to the latest data from the country’s COVID response team, there are currently 28,698 active cases in the country which is the first time in a month that this number is less than 30,000.

There are currently 1,050 hospitalised COVID patients and 265 of them are in ICU while 14 patients died in the past 24 hours as a consequence bringing the COVID death toll to 5,317.
