Institutions are doing their job, let's not politicise, Serbia's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, has said on Friday, reacting seven days after the public learned about the dire conditions of Vietnamese workers on the construction site of the Chinese tire Linglong factory near the northern town of Zrenjanin.

„I will have a meeting with all ministries in the coming days, I will invite people from the company to see what it is about, and we will solve all the existing problems. At this moment, all institutions are doing their job; we should not politicise and not spread half-information or false information. Let’s try to show all foreign and domestic investors and all workers that the laws must be respected in Serbia,“ Brnabic said.

She did not specify what false information she had in mind. She seemed to have referred to the N1 TV report from the site, complaints by some Vietnamese workers and reports by some NGOs.

„We will see,“ Brnabic added, „how to protect the investment and economic environment in Serbia.“

She said the workers, wherever they come from, must be protected by all Serbian laws.

„But I would not directly, immediately and without additional information transfer any responsibility to Linglong, to be completely clear. I’m not running away from the fact that there were some mistakes, I’ll see with them. Let’s just clear this up,“ Brnabic said and reiterated – „and do not politicise it. “

Earlier on Friday, the Chinese Ambassador to Belgrade Chen Bo also spoke for the first time about the events at her country’s factory. The embassy demanded all Chinese companies abide by the laws and regulations of Serbia and treat the workers in line with the agreement, she said.
