Serbia’s Vucic to his MPs: Tell reporters they’re hypocrites, don’t insult them

Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia's President, called on all people in power on Monday to respect the Crime and Corruption Reporting Network, KRIK, reporters and many others and that no one had the right to "personally insults, threaten and speak about them in any bad way."

„I say to them (his ruling Serbian Progressive Party, SNS officials and MPs) tell them (reporters) you are fabricating, you don’t tell the truth, you are hypocrites, but no one has right to threaten the journalists. That’s my appeal with these serious people,“ Vucic told reporters in the eastern town of Zajecar.

Vucic denied he was on a campaign tour of the region which was soon to hold a local ballot.

He said he was visiting villages, not the town of Zajecar and did not speak about local elections.

During the last general and local elections, the SNS list was called „Aleksandar Vucic – For Our Children“ in every municipality.

Regarding Mauritius and Hong Kong cases, where his officials and pro-regime media alleged Dragan Djilas, an opposition leader, had bank accounts and companies, Vucic said he did not have anything to appeal about.

„The majority of former regime politicians are arrogant and obtrusive; they did nothing but for their own pockets and fought only for power. “

Referring to rumours about a rift between him and the current Defence Minister, the former head of the Interior Ministry Nebojsa Stefanovic, Vucic said Stefanovic now „became the best in the world“ for his political enemies, because they hoped he „could do something against me.“

He added Stefanovic was a serious politician, „as everyone in SNS.“

Vucic said he was nearing the end of his mandate, and that’s why the opposition shouldn’t bother too much by seeking his enemies within the SNS.

Serbia’s presidential vote is due in spring 2022.
