Miroslav Aleksic, a deputy leader of Serbia's opposition People's Party (NS) said on Wednesday that "the court and the entire state apparatus are helping President Aleksandar Vucic's brother Andrej," and that the judge rejected all his and his lawyer's suggestions "to pass a verdict ordered by the regime."

Aleksic told reporters outside the Belgrade First Basic Court, after closing arguments in Andrej Vucic’s charges against Aleksic for his statement about a phone call Predrag Koluvija, the owner of the largest marijuana plant in Europe, allegedly made to younger Vucic during his arrest, that „they don’t have any evidence for their claim.“

„Maybe they should ask comrade (former official in the Interior Ministry), and she might give them a more credible and relevant proof,“ Aleksic said.

He added that „the fact that the judge did not allow the public and the media to attend the trial at any hearing speaks that this lawsuit is a rigged trial to protect Andrej Vucic. They hide the process from the public.

„If they are right, not allow the media in the courtroom, instead of listening to their lies after the trial.“

Andrej Vucic did not appear at Wednesday’s trial.

Aleksic’s lawyer Borivoje Borovic described the trial as „a farse,’ saying it was „an utterly trapped judiciary and a system that orders not only indictments but also verdicts. “

„I don’t trust the court’s impartiality,“ he added.
