Predrag Maric, long-time head of Serbia’s Emergency Situations Sector within the Interior Ministry (MUP), died at 56 from COVID-19-related complications, the state RTS reported on Monday.
He developed mild coronavirus infection symptoms by the end of December, but his health suddenly deteriorated this month.
Maric received several awards and published three books on emergency management, terrorism and organised crime and explosives’ transport.
He graduated from the Belgarde Law School and specialised in the area of terrorism, organised crime and corruption.
For the last ten years, Maric was a professor at the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies in Belgrade.
