Serbian tourism industry reports huge drop in numbers

The Serbian tourism industry reported a drop of almost 75 percent in the number of tourists visiting the country in 2020 compared to 2019, the Republic Statistics Office (RZS) said on Wednesday.

According to RZS figures the number of tourists in Serbia during 2020 was 24.9 percent of the number in 2019. A total of 424,479 foreign tourists visit the country between January and November – 49,253 from Bosnia-Herzegovina, 26,241 from Bulgaria, 26,216 from Croatia, 24,693 from Montenegro, 23,812 from Germany, 23,683 from Turkey and 20,452 from North Macedonia.

Foreign tourists accounted for 32.1 percent of the number of overnight stays registered a year earlier.

Favorite destinations included Belgrade (217,961 foreign tourists), Novi Sad (32,275), Mt Zlatibor (20,722), the southern city of Nis (20,421) and Mt Kopaonik (17,665).
