Serbian ruling party MP blasts former security agency chief

A Serbian ruling party MP voiced a veiled threat at a former security agency chief, claiming he was part of a conspiracy directed against President Aleksandar Vucic.

Nebojsa Bakarec MP stood up in parliament to say that a conspiracy against the president exists, adding that former Security Information Agency (BIA) chief Sasa Vukadinovic was involved. A photograph of Vukadinovic and opposition leader Dragan Djilas in the northern Italian city of Trieste was featured in pro-government tabloids over the past few days.

“What is this but a conspiracy. What the former BIA chief did was highly unprofessional and impermissible in professional intelligence relations. Imagine if the head of the (Russian) Federal Security Service met with (opposition leader Alexei) Navalyni. You know how that is resolved in Russia? You’re gone,” Bakarec said.

He said the goal of the alleged conspiracy against the president is to protect the interests of certain opposition leaders, former regime officials and individuals in the current authorities.
