Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the environmental protests across the country are part of what he called “a green agenda Jihad”.
“After the political Jihad for rule of law, a new Jihad is starting – a green agenda Jihad,” he said in a live appearance on the pro-authorities TV Happy.
Vucic said that no one cares about the lack of any morality in the green movements in Serbia nor “the fact that the people speaking are the people responsible for bringing in new technologies, the people who owned the hydro-power plants and want to build new one and turned into so-called protectors of rivers when they were refused permission”. He also accused them of being financed from abroad to prevent Serbia from becoming energy secure.
He said that the authorities have to take care of the environment, including rivers, but that the country does not have enough electricity to cover its needs. “We have to ensure energy security so why should I be involved in destroying Serbia and having to pay a billion Euro a year for power in seven or eight years,” he said.
