Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, visited the memorial area in the Bosnian village of Donja Gradina on Saturday to participate in an event honouring the Serb, Jewish and Roma victims of the WWII Jasenovac concentration camp.

He said that „new Jasenovac camps“ will never happen to the Serb people again and that Serbia, although not large, is today “more proud, stronger and more dignified than it was in the past 30 years.”

Apart from Vucic and his delegation, the Chairman of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency and leader of the ruling party in the country’s Serb-majority Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, top RS officials, as well as several foreign ambassadors, representatives of NGO’s, veterans and Jasenovac camp survivors participated in the event.
A memorial service was held for the victims.

The Donja Gradina camp was formed in 1942 as part of the system of the Ustasha camp Jasenovac, and it was active until the end of WWII in 1945 and the collapse of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH).

It spread across 116 hectares, with almost 65,000 square meters of mass graves, and according to a statement by Vucic’s office, 360,000 people, mostly Serbs, were killed there.
