Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday that her government failed to tell the public about everything it has done for the environment.

Commenting the environmental protests over the past two weekends, Brnabic told the pro-regime TV Pink that her cabinet has done a lot to protect the environment and called for more tolerance. “Let’s try to somehow show more tolerance. Just hear us a little more. You don’t like (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic and Ana Brnabic but look at what we have done and then criticize us,” she said.

According to the Prime Minister, the digitalization of the public administration which she has claimed as one of the greatest successes of her government means savings in paper totaling 28,000 trees. “E-administration is protection of the environment. That’s more than 10,000 Kwh of electricity saved,” she said, adding that publishing positive news is very hard in Serbia.

She repeated the claim that the Kreni Promeni organization (one of the protest organizers) is being financed by the Rockefeller Foundation and that “a lot of money is coming in from abroad” but added that she would not be calling anyone “a foreign mercenary” because that is not politically correct. The label foreign mercenary is one of the claims repeatedly made by the Serbian authorities in efforts to discredit their opponents since the 1990s.
