A senior Serbian military doctor said on Monday that the country is not close to imposing restrictions because of the rising number of coronavirus cases.

Colonel Ivo Udovicic MD, commander of the Karaburma military hospital in Belgrade, told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the number of new cases has been rising across the world, including Serbia, due to new omicron strains. He said that was a “warning by the virus that it is not going away”.

According to the colonel, a wave of the coronavirus is expected over the summer which could be dangerous to certain segments of the population. “We will see what the wave will do in the next two weeks but we hope it won’t be big and won’t create a lot of problems,” he said.
