The Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) on Wednesday condemned the threats against Danas daily journalist Snezana Congradin and warned that journalists have become targets.

“NUNS strongly condemns the disturbing, insulting and threatening messages sent to Danas journalist Snezana Congradin, messages that cross all boundaries of normalcy, but are also a signal that journalists have become an open target in a greatly poisoned atmosphere within society,” a press release said.

The threats against Congradin were made on Facebook following a statement she made to the FoNet news agency. NUNS said that the threats were made by the manager of the national youth football team adding that the Football Association of Serbia distanced itself from the man identified only by the initials MC saying it does not want to be involved with political issues.

“The threats against the Danas journalist can’t be part of a political issue but are part of the continuous calls to lync journalist and open hatred towards them,” it said. NUNS said that it had informed the Special Prosecutor for High-Tech Crime about the threats and called the authorities to condemn the threats and prosecute the person responsible.
