Slavisa Lekic, a prominent Serbian journalist known for his columns and investigative work across the former Yugoslavia, has died in Belgrade, the Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) said on Wednesday.

Lekic (1959) worked in print and electronic media, writing fiercely critical columns for the media in his native Serbia and other former Yugoslav republics. He wrote for independent dailies and weeklies such as Nasa Borba, NIN and Reporter in Serbia, Nedeljna Dalmacija in Croatia and Mladina in Slovenia and he was a founder of the Status monthly magazine.

Lekic also produced investigative documentaries about the political and media scenes in Serbia. His documentary Ruler (Vladalac) about Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s regime drew both praise and fierce criticism.

Slavisa Lekic was President of the Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) for a three year term which ended in 2019.
