Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Friday that illegal migrants don’t try to cross borders that are reinforced like the country’s border with Hungary.

Speaking during a visit to the Horgos-Reske border crossing with his Hungarian counterpart Sandor Pinter, Vulin said that Hungary’s efforts to reinforce its border is good news for Serbia.

A ministry press release quoted him as saying that becoming a parking area for migrants is unacceptable to Serbia and that the patrols protect “our way of life”, adding that those patrols also operate along Serbia’s border with North Macedonia.

The two ministers are quoted as saying that joint Serbian-Hungarian border patrols are proof that relations between the two countries are at their highest historic level.

Pinter said that European Union member states have realized that Hungary’s views on protecting the borders are a good solution.
