Serbian government limits food prices

The Serbian government limited the prices of basic foods that are important to lower-income consumers as well as the price of natural gas.

A press release said that the limits on food prices was intended to protect consumers while the decision to limit natural gas prices to pre-empt possible upsets on the market. The press release said that the gas price limit was meant to ease the consequences of the energy crisis and ensure regular supplies.

It reduced duties on gasoline by 20 percent.

The government also extended the limits on fuel prices to July 31.
