The Energy and Mining Ministry filed criminal charges against former power company (EPS) acting CEO Milorad Grcic, claiming that he deceived the public and the government about the situation in the power company, the Insajder portal reported.

Insajder said it was told by Ministry State Secretary Jovanka Atanackovic that an internal EPS report claimed that the collapse of the Nikola Tesla thermal power plant in December was a case of sabotage. The report, which Insajder says it had access to, led to criminal charges against two power plant employees. Atanackovic said that she believes those charges were filed to mask the responsibility of the EPS managers. “The employees were doing their job, miners shoveled mud out of the coal burners and saved the system. The managers did a bad job,” she said.

Atanackovic said that the Ministry did its job and asked questions over the past year. “The Ministry’s job is not shoveling coal into the burners or digging the coal and testing it for quality. We know exactly what the Ministry’s job is. We take care of the country’s energy security and stability which is why we set up a working group for supply security in April to check every report. You can’t know from the start that the CEO is lying to you,” she said.
