Employers in Serbia expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities’ decision to set the minimum monthly wage for 2022 at 35,000 Dinars up form 32,000, claiming that will create problems in their recovery from the pandemic.

Some industry spokespeople said that they will be forced to raise the prices of their services because the salaries in their industries are already much higher than minimum wage. They said the social dialogue exists in name only since with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic deciding how things turn out.

Vucic said recently that the minimum wage would be raised next year. Under existing regulations, the talks between employers, unions and the government should start in August, with the minimum wage set by September 15. If they fail to reach an agreement, the government decides the minimum wage as it did last year.

Employers Union chief Srdjan Drobnjakovic told the Beta news agency that the higher minimum wage will negatively affect companies, especially small and medium companies. He said that employers will demand tax cuts, warning that revenues were much lower during the pandemic.
