The Higher Court in Belgrade sentenced Husein Mujanovic, a former member of the BiH army, to 10 years in prison for mistreating Serb civilians during the war in BiH.

Mujanovic was previously also sentenced to 10 years in prison by the same court in 2020, but the Court of Appeals in Belgrade annulled that verdict last year and ordered a retrial.

Mujanovic was arrested in July 2018 at the border crossing between BiH and Serbia and has been in custody in Serbia since then.

According to the indictment, Mujanovic kept about 30 Serb civilians imprisoned without a legal basis and without a decision of the competent body and treated them inhumanely, inflicting severe mental suffering because he did not provide them with basic living conditions.

The indictment also says he ordered and took part in the beatings of prisoners of war as well, resulting in six deaths.

Mujanovic denied any wrongdoing.
