Serbian composer Kornelije Kovac dies

Serbian musician and composer Kornelije Kovac died in Belgrade at the age of 81 his family said on Monday.

Kovac led one of Yugoslavia’s most popular bands Korni Grupa, including at the 1974 Eurovision song contest. He was also a member of the Sarajevo-based Indexi band which toured Yugoslavia extensively before leaving to move to Belgrade and form Korni Grupa. He composed songs for a number of top performers before moving to Great Britain in 1979 to pursue a solo career.

Kovac collaborated with Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden, German composer Hans Zimmer, Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones, Landscape bass player Andy Pask, Japanese percussionist Joji Hirota and bass player Colin Hodgkinskon among others.

According to his IMDB page, he is credited with writing the score for 61 movies and series between 1968 and 2012.

Kovac’s daughter Aleksandra and Kristina followed in his footsteps while his third daughter Anja became an actress.
