The governor of Serbia’s central Bank Jorgovanka Tabakovic said on Thursday that the solvency of insurance companies has been maintained throughout the pandemic, allowing the insurance market to develop.

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor said that insurers managed to maintain the values of their investment portfolios and secure technical reserves to service insurance contracts. “In the first three months of this year they achieved a positive temporary net result totaling 6.7 billion Dinars (1 Euro – 118 Dinars),” she told the opening of the Serbian Days of Insurance 2021 conference in the town of Arandjelovac.

She said that overall premiums in the first nine months of 2021 increased by 88.6 billion Dinars or 9.7 percent compared to the same period of 2020. “We are seeing a growth in premiums compared to the same period of last year in 17 types of insurance, including travel insurance which was worst affected by the pandemic,” she said, adding that property, life and health insurance were showing continued growth.
