Serbia to issue green bonds

Serbia’s Government said it would form an inter-departmental working group to develop and implement the issuance of the country’s green bonds on the international financial market, the latest issue of the Official Gazette.

Such bonds are used to finance investments in environmental protection.

The decision comes amid several environmental organisations’ mass protests against the foreign investments in the country which pollute the environment.

The protests also forced the authorities to announce a referendum on some investments the people protested over.

However, President Aleksandar Vucic described those protests as populist and against the country’s progress.
