Scabies have been reported at the cardiology ward of the Kragujevac Clinical Center by several media outlets quoting an anonymous e-mail.

The Clinical Center issued a press release indirectly confirming the reports and saying that it is not obkliged to report an outbreak of scabies. “Shortcomings in the health and hygiene of the population leads to the appearance of diseases which were thought to be uprooted such as scabies… that infectious disease has lost its epidemiological significance …. and under existing laws it does not have to be reported to the authorities,” the press release said, adding that treatment is started and the infected staff are sent home.

It added that all prescribed measures were taken once an outbreak was suspected to prevented the spread of the infection.
Danas daily asked the Clinical Center management how many patients and staff were infected but was referred to the press release.

Doctors and opposition politicians have been saying for several years that the state of the Serbian health service is bad with allegations of bad conditions in hospitals appearing on social media.
