Researcher warns of bad living conditions for workers in Serbia

Economic Sciences Institute researcher Aleksandar Matkovic said on Friday that the case of the Vietnamese workers living in squalid conditions at the Linglong construction site in Zrenjanin is not an isolated case.

He told a debate organized by the Independent Society of Journalists of Vojvodina that he witnessed Chinese workers living in similar conditions in other parts of Serbia and added that the public has to stand up to those cases because the authorities are doing nothing to protect the workers even though the law obliges them to.

“I saw several places with similar conditions where Chinese workers live next to buckets of feces and that says everything about living conditions,” he said and asked how the government allowed things like this to happen.
