Nenad Rasic, the newly-appointed Kosovo Minister for Communities and Return said on Monday that the decision by the Kosovo Serbs to walk out of institutions was wrong.

Rasic’s appointment drew fierce reactions from Belgrade, including from President Aleksandar Vucic.

The new minister told Radio KiM that the Serbs walked out of the Kosovo judiciary, police, parliament and other institutions under pressure from Belgrade. “I assume that some of the people who walked out realized their mistake, that they jeopardized their careers because some of them were in various institutions for 10-15 years… I can understand the walkout because of the circumstances and lack of communication with the Kosovo government and the pressure from Belgrade,” he said.

According to Rasic, the Serbian government wanted to send a radical message to Pristina and paralyze Kosovo institutions. “If the elections are held as planned on December 18 and 25 we won’t have Serb mayors in the northern (majority Serb) municipalities for the next two years.
