Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic wanted to visit the WWII Jasenovac memorial privately on Sunday but that he postponed that visit "for the sake of good relations" between Serbia and Croatia.

She assessed the action of the Croatian authorities as „the biggest scandal in the modern history of Serbia and Croatia.“

„It is not clear to me whether he is banned from visiting Croatia or Jasenovac, so he can go anywhere, but not to Jasenovac, which in my opinion is an unbelievable precedent,“ Brnabic said, adding that this is „brutal violation of freedom of movement.“

PM noted that Vucic wanted to privately visit the place „where the Ustasha regime most brutally killed hundreds of thousands of Serbs, the only camp for children in Europe“ that she knows of, and that he wanted to lay flowers there. She stressed that preventing the visit by one member state of the European Union was „not a scandal, but much more.“

„Vucic will now ask for an official visit, so let’s see those European values,“ said Brnabic, assessing that the postponement of his visit to Jasenovac due to the decision of the Croatian authorities „is not a humiliation for Serbia, but for Croatia.“
