Ana Brnabic, Serbia's Prime Minister, said on Wednesday she was "sincerely proud of how the authorities fought and what level of efficiency they showed, of the state's readiness to handle all that and at the same time secure three aid packages to people and businesses."

However, the president of the Union of Doctors and Pharmacists of Serbia, Rade Panic, started a heated argument with  her and  Health Minister Zlatibor Loncat,   accusing the authorities „for endangering the health and for unnecessary deaths that happen in Serbia.“

Addressing the National Convention on EU, during ‘Public Health, COVID and Vaccination debate, Brnabic added that „unfortunately, we witnessed different kinds of misuse.“

„I’m sorry that as someone responsible, I had to hear opposite messages from organisations that are professional, not political,“ Brnabic said, alluding to a group of doctors who, among other things, advised coronavirus patients to use a veterinarian drug to treat the disease.

Loncar added that the young doctors and nurses carried the heaviest burden of the epidemic, helped by older experts.

Panic responded by saying that since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic, „135 doctors have paid with their lives“, and it was not known how many nurses, technicians and health care workers had died.

He also demanded the mark of secrecy be taken off from the purchasing of ventilators.

Loncar said Panic „accuses someone of being guilty of someone’s death without any evidence“ and added that Panic was not a representative of the Union but involved in politics.

Brnabic added Panic was „an example of hypocrisy, contradictory messages and behaviour and an example of politicking.“
