The Pfizer company said that its vaccine against COVID-19 was very effective in children of 12 years of age, which was considered an essential step toward the immunisation of that age group before the next school year.

A majority of anti-coronavirus vaccines are meant for adults more in danger of the infection.

Preliminary results of a study of 2,260 US volunteers between 12 and 15 years of age showed the completely vaccinated adolescents did not get COVID-19.

The US Pfizer company and its German partner BioNtech plan an urgent request for a permit from the US Food and Drug Administration and the European regulators to use  their vaccine in children from 12 years of age

The study on Moderna vaccine effects in 12-17-year-old children is expected soon.
