Retired General Zdravko Ponos, the opposition coalition 'United for Serbia's Victory' presidential candidate, said on Friday the country should not allow the war in Ukraine to be imposed as the main issue but should turn to April 3 elections which would influence people's lives and to see how that war would affect everything.

„Why do we now have the situation in which the war in Ukraine affects us politically, security-wise and economically so drastically? Because we have a private state which is run as private property,“ Ponos told the coalition’s convention in the central town of Krusevac.

He added that President Aleksandar Vucic „creates panic instead of seeing what’s happening and how to calm down the situation.“

„But that is not by chance. That’s the consequence of three ways of his rule – arrogance, incompetence and blandishments on the international stage. There is yet another reason – the lesson earned in the 1990s. When it’s a crisis, war crisis, that’s a chance for some to get rich,“ Ponos said.

He added that Serbia should finally be ruled by „a real administration, not a regime, by people who got an opportunity to do good things which don’t cost a lot.“
