An unnamed NATO official told the Euractive portal on Friday that the Alliance remains committed providing a secure environment for all communities in Kosovo.
“NATO has contributed to the stability of the Western Balkans for many years and remains committed to the region,” the official said commenting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s claim that an unnamed great power wants KFOR and UNMIK withdrawn from Kosovo. Vucic said that would be an absolute disaster for the Serbs.
“Our KFOR mission is based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, to provide a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for the benefit of all communities living in Kosovo. All decisions in NATO, including regarding KFOR, are taken by consensus by all 30 Allies,” the unnamed Alliance official is quoted as saying.
