N1 journalist Santovac wins NYU award for documentary

N1 journalist Adam Santovac won New York University’s Edwin Diamond Award for his documentary Ana Was Here.

The Faculty of the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at NYU announced that Santovac won the award which is presented to outstanding students in journalism – “with the energy, enthusiasm, and skill of pioneering journalist and media critic Edwin Diamond”.

The announcement said that “Adam’s 30-minute documentary video, “Ana Was Here, served as his Master’s thesis for the News & Documentary program. Adam’s documentary is about how Serbia, a conservative Balkan country with no LGBT rights, is led by an openly gay Prime Minister,” the announcement said.

According to the New York Times, Diamond was an author, teacher and journalist whose career spanned more than 45 years and ranged from covering the space age to critiquing the news media. He worked at Newsweek, the New York Daily News, Adweek, New York magazine, the Washington Journalism Review and in television in Washington and was a a professor at the Department of Journalism at New York University.

Adam Santovac graduated from NYU as a Fullbright scholar.
