The Serbian Family And Demography Ministry said on Wednesday that 521 more children were born in the country in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period a year earlier.

The ministry credited the rise in the number of births to its efforts to improve family support. Ministry State Secretary Milka Milovanovic Minic told a debate on support for families with small children that the ministry improved financial support for families and is drafting a family law.

She said that there are almost 5,000 children in foster care, including about 1,000 with serious health problems.
