Mihajlovic says Serbia committed to diversifying gas supplies

Mining and Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Thursday that Serbia is committed to diversifying the sources and routes it gets its supplies of natural gas from, adding that it is prepared to plan an active part in regional and international projects to ensure energy security for southeastern Europe.

She told an online ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council that Serbia plans to connect its gas pipelines to Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro allowing it get supplies through other routes and from other suppliers.

Mihajlovic said that Serbia’s gas supply rooutes have been diversified with the launch of the Balkan Stream pipeline, adding that the next step is diversification of suppliers as the sole guarantee for energy security. “The Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection is the first project to bring in other natural gas suppliers with the planned capacity of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad pipeline estimated at 1.8 billion cubic meters and an estimated value of the investment in Serbia of 85.5 million Euro,” she told the meeting. She said that the pipeline will become operational by 2023.
