Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral said "immorality and debauchery are being preached and promoted here through certain power structures from the world."
Joanikije invited “all Christians” to assemble outside the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica on Friday for a prayer for the salvation of the sanctity of marriage and family.
“Our Christian path is a path of virtue, a path of holiness, a path of salvation, a path of fulfilling God’s commandments. This is why I invite all Christians, including you here, and you invite your loved ones, so that every family, every individual, adults, girls and boys and children come on Friday to the cathedral in Podgorica for a prayer for the salvation of the sanctity of marriage and family,“ said Joanikije.
Prior to the Pride parade, which is to be held on October 8 in Podgorica, the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and the Eparchy of Budimlja and Niksic announced that “a prayer for the sanctity of marriage and preservation of the family” will be held on October 7.
The LGBT Forum Progress said it was very clear that the prayer is aimed against LGBTIQ persons who are described by the Serbian Orthodox Church as destroyers of the traditional family.
The Government failed to respond when asked if any of the ministers will be attending the parade.
Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic’s office told the daily Vijesti that he will not be in Montenegro on the day of the parade but that he will publicly support Montenegro Pride and stress the importance of freedoms.
