Serbian director Emir Kusturica is reported to have accepted an offer to head the Russian military’s central theater.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, Kusturica was offered the position of CEO of the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. It quoted a press release which said that Shoigu met with Kusturica to make the proposal.

The Central Academic Theatre of the Russian Army is the largest theater in Moscow. It was established in 1929 as the Red Army Theatre and was renamed the Soviet Army Theatre in 1951. It mainly produces war-themed plays.

The press release quoted Kusturica as saying that he was honored by Shoigu’s offer. “The Russian Army’s theater has a great history and tradition,” he said, adding that he plans to produce Soviet-era and 21st century works.
