Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said on Thursday that Pristina’s goal is to join NATO the European Union and Council of Europe (CoE) as soon as possible.

Speaking to the media in Vilnius with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Osmani said that Kosovo’s membership in NATO should be viewed in terms of security. “That is why all freedom loving countries in Europe that want to contribute to peace and security deserve to be in NATO. Their aspirations for membership should be supported,” she said adding that Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina should be given support in the form of faster accession.

Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla Schwarz said on Thursday that Pristina submitted its request for membership in the Council of Europe.

According to Osmani, 93 percent of the citizens of Kosovo want to join NATO. “This is the historic desire of the people of Kosovo since 1999,” she said.

Earlier, Osmani said that “it’s absurd for anti-NATO countries such as Belarus and Serbia to be in NATO’s Partnership for Peace program”.
