The Kosovo police raided seven sites in the Strpce area, arresting two people on corruption charges on Wednesday.

An N1 reporter said that a customs officer and the CEO of the Brezovica Ski Center were arrested for taking bribes. The KoSSev news portal said that the police searched an unspecified institution in the town which operates as part of the systems of Serbia.

Local media reported that the police operation was launched because of dubious construction permits issued for sites in the Sara National Park on the Brezovice area. Those reports were confirmed by Prosecutor Rasim Maloku who said that the operation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, the police search 12 sites in four towns as part of the same operation, arresting eight people. The operation was initially launched late in December when 10 people were arrested including the former Serb Mayor of Strpce Bratislav Nikolic who was charged with taking bribes to issue construction permits for vacation homes. Prosecutors charged Nikolic with taking 210,000 Euro in bribes for 21 construction permits issued to the Stella Consulting company and another 200,000 Euro for the permit to build that company’s hotel.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that he does not expect the international community to react to the Kosovo police operation in Strpce which he said is intended to cleanse the area of Serbs.
