A statement from Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s cabinet said on Monday that the Kosovo Intelligence Agency reported an attempt to assassinate him in 2021.

It said that the report was not made public to avoid panic. “Security institutions took every measure to prevent the operation,” it added.

The Albanian Post web site said that e-mails sent by Gladis Nano, the former Police Director General in Albania, showed that attempts were also being prepared on the lives of former security services officer Ismet Hoxha and Xhavit Haliti, both MPs for the Democratic Party of Kosovo. The e-mails were part of a package of data published by the Iranian hacker group Homeland Justice.

According to the portal, the idea behind the assassinations was to destabilize Kosovo and weaken Kurti’s Vetevendosje party.
